Methods
As a trauma therapist, I use a combination of therapeutic modalities in order to achieve the best emotional regulation and health. Some of those commonly used in my practice are Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor, Emotionally Focused Therapy, IFS, Polyvagal, Bilateral Stimulation methods, Brainspotting, and Mindfulness and Grounding practices. As we work together, I will utilize the tools I think best suit your situation, both currently and when discussing past history. I don't believe that a specialist needs to adhere to one form of therapeutic technique - there is value in therapeutic flexibility. Your experiences with any of these techniques, either favorable or not-actually-very-helpful, will assist me in creating an atmosphere that is about you and your comfort and growth and healing. Our sessions belong to you. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, anxious, and overwhelmed by life. They struggle with depression that lingers despite their best efforts, and hypervigilance keeps them on edge, making it difficult to relax or trust others. One client, for example, came to me feeling constantly anxious and deeply exhausted by the hypervigilance they experienced in every situation. They couldn’t understand why their relationships were so strained, or why their depression wouldn’t lift, no matter what they tried. Through our work together, we started slow—building trust and understanding their body's response to trauma. As they gained insight into why they felt so on guard all the time, they began to experience moments of relief. Using somatic techniques, we worked on calming their nervous system, which allowed them to experience peace in their relationships and start engaging more deeply with others. By the end of our work, they had come out of the fog of depression, feeling more connected to themselves and less weighed down by anxiety. They also learned that their hypervigilance wasn’t a permanent state, but a response that could be healed with time and care. |
