The Grind of it All

I really feel like I want to acknowledge people (like me) who are feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by the state of everything right now.

It's a daily grind. And if we don't acknowledge that the environment we are living in impacts our mental health, we just sink into dysregulation instead of recognizing that life around us is as important to our daily functioning as our individual lives. We cannot control the things around us. We are living in a place where poverty, racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, etc. are increasing exponentially and safety feels fraught. If you've lost family or friends over the last few years, you've experienced a break in your foundational safety. If friends are disappearing because they're just too tired, or you are just too tired, to engage anymore, that's also traumatic.

Depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, intrusive thoughts, grief - you name it - are increasing. And that's not a you problem. Try to know the difference between what is happening around you versus what is happening in you. Finding safety is hard right now.  Needing a mental health day, or even worrying about your mental health, makes sense when you aren't ever able to fully rest. I do want you to be able to differentiate between the state of the world and your personal state of being. Check in with your inner wisdom. You might find that your personal feelings are directly impacted by the world, and that's SO normal. It's also okay to talk about it as much as you need to.
